Description

Tscharke Wines is run by Damien Tscharke, a sixth-generation Barossa farmer whose grandparents Gerhard and Irene first planted vines at Seppeltsfield, in the heart of Marananga. Damien studied viticulture and oenology, made his first wine after hours in 2001, and founded Tscharke Wines properly in 2004, determined to farm the family land his own way.

That way turned out to be uncompromising: Tscharke is one of only three wineries in the entire Barossa Valley, out of more than 150, certified both organic and biodynamic. The estate runs on solar power, uses only rainwater and recycled water, and makes its own compost and biodynamic preparations on site, working towards a fully closed-loop farm. Marananga's elevated, western-ridge position gives the vineyard cooler nights and more temperature swing than the valley floor, and it's this old, prehistoric soil and careful, hands-off farming that gives Shiraz Shiraz Shiraz its generous, true-to-place character.

Tasting Notes

Vintage: 2024

Colour: Deep, vibrant ruby-purple with a rich colour density.

Nose: Classic Barossa Shiraz: dark plum, blackberry, cherry and warming spice. Notes of dark chocolate, pepper and a hint of earthy depth from the biodynamic farming.

Palate: Full and generous with plush, ripe dark fruit. Good tannin structure and natural acidity from organic farming keep the wine lively and balanced. Spice, dark fruit and warm earth carry through to a long, satisfying finish.
