Generous and full of character. Dark cherry, red berries and a hint of sweet spice on the nose. Soft and inviting on the palate, opening to some red stone fruit, strawberries and fresh mushrooms, framed by satin tannins and restrained toasted oak. Pairs beautifully with duck, mushroom dishes or salmon.

Description

The Protege label pays tribute to the Cressy tennis racquet, produced in Launceston, the understudy of Holm Oak's flagship Wizard. Deliberately made lighter and more fruit-driven than Holm Oak's other Pinot Noirs, the fruit is picked at moderate sugar levels while displaying fresh strawberry and cherry character, then destemmed and fermented on skins for 10 days using yeasts chosen to enhance fruit aromatics. The wine is matured in tank rather than oak before bottling.

A fitting, easy-drinking entry point into the Holm Oak Pinot Noir range.
Tasting Notes

Vintage: 2022

Colour: Pale crimson.

Nose: A vibrant and lively wine, with aromas of wild strawberry, fresh cherry and cranberry complemented by some subtle spice notes and floral lift.

Palate: Light and juicy, with ample mid-palate weight and fine tannins flowing through to cleansing acidity on the finish. Seamless and well balanced with excellent length.
