Description

The Eugenio Bustos sub-region of the Uco Valley in Mendoza sits at high altitude in the foothills of the Andes, between approximately 900 and 1,100 metres above sea level. At this elevation, the daily temperature variation between hot desert days and cold mountain nights is extreme, a factor that concentrates fruit flavours while preserving the natural acidity and freshness that define the best high-altitude Malbec.

The region takes its name from the town of Eugenio Bustos in San Carlos, and the sandy loam soils over bedrock here drain freely and force the vines to work hard for water, producing naturally lower yields and more intensely flavoured fruit. Malbec from this sub-region is known for its floral aromatics, ripe plum and dark berry character, and the kind of racy acidity that adds energy and length to the palate. The wine is aged in French and American oak for eight months before bottling, adding layers of mocha, vanilla and coconut complexity to the naturally vibrant fruit. For those who love Malbec, this is a genuinely satisfying everyday expression of the variety at its most characterful.
