Vibrant and easy-drinking, Carrick's most approachable Pinot Noir. Fresh dark-skinned cherry, wild forest berries and a light dried herb complexity on the nose. Raspberry, strawberry, cherry and rose flow through the palate, with clove and allspice woven through fine, chalky tannins. From Carrick, organic, minimal intervention and nothing hidden. Pairs beautifully with stone-grilled pizza, roasted duck or mushroom dishes.

Description

Carrick Winery sits on a peninsula in the heart of Bannockburn, Central Otago, surrounded by the Bannockburn Inlet and the Kawarau River. The estate is certified organic under BioGro, a commitment made in 2008, and every wine is grown on the same remarkable piece of glacial alluvial land that the founding team has farmed since the 1990s. The poor, wind-swept soils of the Cairnmuir Terraces are responsible for wines of remarkable energy and precision.

Ownership passed to Tony and Alison Cleland in 2021, ushering in an exciting new phase for the estate, with winemaker Rosie Menzies continuing to craft wines that are an honest, compelling expression of this special corner of the South Island. The Unravelled range represents Carrick at its most accessible: vibrant, fruit-forward and genuinely easy to love.

Tasting Notes

Vintage: 2022

Colour: Bright, deep ruby with a clear, youthful appearance.

Nose: A pristine bouquet of fresh dark-skinned cherry and wild forest berries, with a light dried herb quality that introduces savoury, mineral complexity. Red cherry, raspberry and strawberry lift on the nose alongside fine lees and subtle spice.

Palate: A fine, chalky tannin texture coated in vibrant red berry fruit touches the palate first, followed by a contrasting acid line and flavours of raspberry, strawberry, cherry and rose. Well-rounded and nicely balanced with clove and allspice woven among the ripe red fruits. Soft, yet with genuine energy. A clean, slightly bitter finish that keeps you coming back.
